As a child the one person Jason looked up to the most was his mother... when he was little he would sit there and watch her draw for hours in amazement. “Even though we have very different styles artistically some of the fundamentals she taught me as kid I still implement today whether drawing, painting or tattooing”. If not tattooing, you can always find him painting or sketching in his down time. Tattooing is something he’s been interested in since his early teens. “My friends and I were all a bunch of little punk rock, metal-head skateboarders hand poking tattoos into ourselves and each other.” Having spent many years in the music industry (Chimaira co-founder, former guitarist), music and tattoos go hand and hand... been drawing since he could hold a pencil; the love for tattooing so it was the logical direction for him to take. “Tattooing is something I've wanted to do for quite some time, my friend Rich Griggs had faith in my art and told me he would teach me.” Coming up on his third year of tattooing he can't possibly see himself doing anything else. Over the past 3 years he’s been trying to learn and absorb knowledge from as many great artists as he can. “In this industry there’s always something to learn whether it be styles or techniques and apply it to your own work.” Some of Jason’s influences in tattooing are Joshua Carlton, Florian Karg, Nikko Hurtado and Mike DeMasi to name a few as well as illustrative artists such as Pushead, Norman Rockwell, H.R. Giger and the artwork on early punk and metal albums as well as 80's era skateboard graphics... However the list could go on and on. Winning his first award in only 2 ½ years of tattooing was one of his proudest moments; taking first place for a Bella Lugosi “Dracula” black and grey portrait. His personal style would be realism and a more painted style of realism. He does however enjoy doing others and taking on a challenge. But by far his favorite to do are portraits... he loves the challenge and it's just overall the most fun style he has done. As a huge fan of "Realistic Trash Polka" he would love to do more of that but with my own spin. “My goal is to keep pushing myself further and further with each tattoo, do more conventions, hopefully winning more awards and becoming a published artist that others in the industry can look up to. I just want to keep learning, growing and become a respected artist in the industry.”
